During hard lockdown taverns across South Africa were not allowed to trade, which was a welcome move by some and of course those who enjoy the social space around taverns were not pleased with the move. Many tavern and pub owners advocated for the reopening of business and indicated that they will comply.

It’s now apparent that people only observe protocols when they are at malls or policed to comply. Local taverns are full and no social distancing as well as masks, worse people do not carry masks or sanitize.
