Snake park has many children with cerebral palsy, this could be linked to mining impacts

Ellen Glen for special needs. It’s a home for children with mental and physical disability. The founder of this home is miss Pontso Madana who lives in snake park block 5.

She started this home for children with disability when she discovered her son had a mental disability. His son started showing signs that the has a mental disability while he was still at primary school at the age of ten. She then decided to Quit her job as constructor, so that she can be able to take care of her son.

When she started taking her son for treatments she discovered that are many children with disabilities. And most of the parents are ignorant and are abusing their disabled children. In 2006 she then started a day care. As time went the number of the children grew larger. then in 2010 she decided to start a home. She also adds that her husband also died with TB.

The are many children with cerebral palsy in Snake park.  Because of the dust. When a pregnant woman breathes radioactive materials, it affects the unborn baby.  Most of the woman don’t know about this factor. How many more children are going to be born with this disability? If this issue of radiation is just hidden under the table. By Thokozile Mntambo
