SAVE the Vaal river

SAVE the Vaal River is an NGO initiative based in Vanderbijlpark, SAVE is having ongoing meetings with the DWS together with Metsi a Lekoa ELM about pollution incidents in the Vaal Barrage Catchment, as the meeting continued on Friday the 26th January at Stone Heaven.

When a concern was posed about the responsibilities of the Rivers, Wetlands and Dams getting polluted Metsi a Lekoa pulled out of the responsibilities saying it was RandWater and DWS to take up responsibility, apart from many talks, we learned of the ongoing sewer spills from Klipriver downstream to the Loch. When Rietspruit is also a contributor in the Loch. Most of deteriorating issues is cable theft and vandalising of the sewer pump stations equipment along the Catchment.   By Mduduzi Tshabalala
