Cracked houses
Community Alerts/Christina Magobye/Sefikile-Rustenburg/02 August 2019
The problem faced by the community of Sefikile village is cracked houses as a résult of blasting from the mine- Anglo Platinum Union Mine that is now called Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine.
This experience by the Diphataneng, Shongwane, Pote, Kgetse, Diphale, and Morema, sections in particular.
Some cracks require filling and some need the houses to be built as they are beyond repair.
This problem has been experienced for a périod of many years and homeowners and women are mostly affected as they are taking care of homes.
This has caused holes in the pocket of owners as they have invested money to build shelters and this is a loss of assets, shelter, and results in criminals having easy access during their breakings.
The community is aware of the problem and have taken it up with the Deputy Minister of DMR last year.
Questions:
1. Were these houses built by the mine?
Answer:
No. I have already sent a background story that tells everything.
2. Did the mine fix these houses and did they crack again?
Answer:
No. They were never fixed and that is why we had to take it to the D. Minister last year, Mr Molefi Oliphant.
3. Are they still cracking?
Answer:
Yes. There is an open cast and Horizontal shaft in the process so the houses are still cracking. By Christinah Mogobye-Sefikile.
