The 2019 Golden Shield Heritage Awards were held at Meropa Casino Polokwane in Limpopo on the 20th September 2019. The aim was to promote community awareness about diverse intangible culture heritage of South Africa and to recognize projects that reflects best practice in protecting, preserving, conserving and promoting heritage. An Activist from Sekhukhune, Mmabore Mogashoa was also honoured. She is the songwriter for Bohwa Bja Rena song meaning ‘Our Hetitage’. A song about the crying of an African child to ancestors about the challenges they face in Africa -the division amongst Africans where there is Xenophobia and no Ubuntu. -The Damage caused to land where environment, fauna and flora and Africans are affected. People are getting sick and we are losing our heritage. -Cemetries are destroyed or moved without following proper African tradition or performing rituals. -Traditional leadership that is in trouble. Another song Is ‘I am African’ which is about an African who is proud about her skin colour, her talent and Africa. The winner of National heritage Council 2019 May essay competition titled ‘I am an African’, 2019 short story competition about challenges faced by people with Albinism .
