COVID – 19 cases in Sekhukhune

When the Pandemic started people from the Sekhukhune thought they were safe until after 3 months later were we had the first case that was someone who comes from the other province and we had 2 case in our Municipality Fetakgomo Tubatse.

 It became worse when the mines opened because we saw a massive increase of the positive cases that is happening in the mine industry, what makes the communities scared is that they don’t know if they have to trace their movement. “The workers are our brothers, sisters, boyfriends, girlfriends, wives, husbands, fathers and mothers and they are part of the community and if the mine wont trace their movements even in the community it leaves us in a very dangerous position “one of the community member said.

When we look at the district, its only Fetakgomo Tubatse who has positive cases about 61 (cases) and this is the municipality were you find about +32 mines. The community at large is scared now. I personally think the mines must go extra miles when they find the positive case in the mine to also check the families of the worker and they must also be quarantine too. Yesterday the Marula mine workers reported at work and i had a chance to speak to one of the employee who told me that they are so scared and they just go to work because they don’t want to lose their work especially during this difficult time.
