High unemployment rate

Ikemeleng is one of the door step mining community is one within the vicinity of five (5) big mining houses in kroondal area just outside Rustenburg cbd. Although the community is surrounded by chrome and platinum mines and the increase in unemployment, poverty and theft is rising daily and very disturbing. The rate is increasing rapidly more and more as people are not working and not entering the labor market.

COVID – 19 is a major cause in the increasing population of unemployment and also it also caused by the decline in the economic activities which result in small job opportunities or none at all. During an interview with one of the community member, I personally noticed that unemployment has psychological impact on the residents and they end up taking part in illegal activities such as theft and robbery.

And the responds of the interview process was that the matter has been brought to the council by the means of peaceful public demonstration but nothing had happened so far. The community need the unemployment forum to be elected to give them equal opportunities
