PILANESBERG PLATINUM MINE (PPM) REACHES AGREEMENT WITH LESETLHENG PEOPLE FOR MINING WILGESPRUIT FARM.

After such a long time community of Lesetlheng took PPM to court from 2014 to 2018 to stop PPM not to mine their farm without their consent.The court then directed PPM and Lesetlheng community to negotiate the settlement. So since last year and till this year of 2020 the two parties have been negotiating.

One of the negotiator from Lesetlheng said that the negotiations took three days to be final from 8 to 10 June at Kwa Maritane and PPM announced news in media on 11 June 2020.The settlement that has been reached now provides for compensation of resettled community members of Lesetlheng. Pilanesberg Platinum Mine also state that the settlement agreement also includes a transparency and fair procurement and social labour plan.

PPM mentioned this project will create many jobs and they’re planning to start few months to come before the end of this year but the doorstep community leaders including Motlhabe, Magong, Ntswana le metsing, Ngweding and Legkraal they are not happy about what they heard.They said Wilgespruit is not for Lesetlheng only is divided by portion and Lesetlheng people owns Modimole farm only.The doorstep communities said they should have included them to participate in the negotiations agreement.
