The residents of ext 25 in Jouberton are subjected to long queues during the scheduled dates to collect their paraffin. Ext 25 is an informal settlement which was started three years ago. Paraffin is provided by government as part of indigent subsidies, the community complain that sometimes the paraffin doesn’t come during the some scheduled dates.
During this time of Covid 19, its collection is too risky, the queue becomes unbearable, social distance becomes practically impossible. Queue marshals try to maintain the one meter distance but with no success. During the paraffin collection, all the dwellers go for collection, something needs to be done to reduce the number of people turning over.
