More job loss due to COVID19

Ikemeleng is located in Kroondal outside of Rustenburg in the North West Province. The community is a host of 5 mining houses named Glencore, Samancor, Sibanye, Lanxess and Anglo-American Platinum.

Sibanye had a security company named Bidvest Protea Coin that had employed over 20 000 people in Kroondal Marikana operations. Their contract with Sibanye has come to an end. Due to COVID19 Pandemic, Sibanye could not renew their contract. That leaves the company with no option but to retrench employees. Bidvest Protea Coin is retrenching 1290 employees as of end of August 2020.

The number of job loss increases daily due to COVID19. South Africa has been experiencing high rate of unemployment without the Pandemic. Now with this covid 19 Pandemic, it’s becoming much higher we had expected. With the closing of all liquor stores, more people are now at home with no source of income. More and more people are being affected by COVID19 every day in different ways.
