Operations around the Mines were forced to halt operations when level 5 lockdown was implemented.

The lockdown measure was to reduce the spread of the virus. Such resulted in many workers to take leave and return home to be with loved ones.
When operations resumed, mining companies were allowed to operate at 50% capacity.
The twist however is that Mines had migrant labour from SADEC countries and labour sending areas like Eastern Cape and so on.

At current Mines are recording increased production in some shafts but further need labour to increase production further.

This has created an opportunity for the local community who for the past years struggled to get jobs.

Some councillors are using the opportunity as a political tool as they now play the role of recruitment agency.
