The Justice and Peace Commission has taken upon itself and mobilized the community of extension 25 in Jouberton Township which is an informal settlement to initiate and start a community food garden project.
This initiative was started last year when Tshepo Mmusi of the Justice and Peace Commission saw a need for a community food garden which will respond to challenges of hunger and unemployment. The initiative was warmly welcomed by members of the community of extension 25 and their leadership. Community Advice Offices of South Africa (CAOSA) support the initiative and members of the community cannot wait to get to work.
A piece of land has been identified, the municipality has agreed to avail the land and be in partnership with the community and Justice and Peace is facilitating the process of bringing more partners on board.
