Mokopane Police station

17/03/2021 Mpho Tjale/Limpopo/Mokopane: 17 March 2021

Community members from 3 community

based structures namely MCAC, MTT and SANCO gathered at Mokopane Police station exercising their democratical right that is stipulated under section 17 of South African constitution, picketing in front of the police station seeking answers on unresolved cases of political killings in the municipal demarcation of Mogalakwena municipality, and also making a call to the Police Minister Hon. Bheki Cele since he promised to resolve  an assassination case of the late Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralf Kanyane with a month after they were killed daylight on the 23 July 2019 in Mokopane CBD.

All political killings in Mogalakwena remain unresolved and the murders are not arrested till to date, in 2004 Lleka Lekalakala was murdered outside his home at Mosesetjane and he was the Chiefwhip of ANC by that time still his

murderers are not arrested as yet, in 2014 a political activist was gunned down at Hospital view(Mahwelereng) still his murderers are not arrested, in 2019 Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralf Kanyane were assisinated daylight in town of Mokopane still their murderers are not arrested and during that time Vaaltyn Kekana was the chairperson of MPAC (Municipal Public Account Committee) which deals the public purse of the institution, they were assisinated recently after the release of the report by the late Auditor General stating that Mogalakwena municipality has a wasteful and unauthorized expenditure that is over R3billions, and Ralf Kanyane was a political activist who was vocal in talking and exposing corruption that  was happening in Mogalakwena municipality.

The memorandum was submitted to the station commander of Mokopane Police

Station and an open letter will be sent to Bheki Cele, and the same memorandum has been sent to Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Province and the structures also agreed that the same memorandum must be copied to the parliamentary committee of Safety and Security.

This political killings threatens the community activists in addressing issues they are exposed to fearing for their lives knowing for a fact that not even 1 person was ever be arrested for killing political Activists. In 1 of the placards the structures stated that “Mokopane Police station Investigators are getting paid for mahala” which simply means investigators are getting paid for doing absolutely nothing!!!, this are some of the frustrations community structures raised.
