Workers of Shoprite Tower Mall in Jouberton had a sit in, and protested against the management of the store. They protested against the opening of the store and to resume with their duties after there were reports of two covid 19 detection amongst their staff members. They do not want to resume work until after the store has been disinfected.
Other labour related matters were also brought on the table. Members of South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) were seen arguing with the store management and chanting revolutionary songs together with workers inside the store.
Stranded members of the community who came for shopping could be seen looking through the door glasses the incidents that were happening. Police visibility was strong as members of the South African Police Services were monitoring the situation.
It is very important for everyone including corporations to adhere to lockdown regulations, without compromising human lives further. It is a requirement that if there is a covid 19 case detection in any establishment that such establishment be closed and be disinfected so that when operations are to resume everyone is safe from infection. Follow up and Further investigation to be done.
