Matjabeng Monitor
22 April 2022
Peace March to hand over a memorandum of grievances to DMRE officials.
The following based organisation. = gold fields community forum, Macau, climate justice coalition, national association of artisanal mining partnered together to hand over memorandum of grievances.
The memorandum read as follows by TAOLE MOKHELE. the conveyor of the march: we are mining community in Lejweleputswa.
We have taken note of the arrogance of DMRE for failure to respond on the memorandum we have handed over last year September for the #uproot DMRE campaign.
We call for a just transition from a coal & other fossil fuel fuels to a society based on social justice & clean just a renewal energy.
This year we are here again to hand over our memorandum.
Our demand are as follows= (1) failure of DMRE to regulate & oversight harmony SLP.
(2) incomplete projects & undelivered promises by harmony.
(3) tetra plant must go.
(4) artisanal mining to be legalised.
(5) a new sustainable energy system to replace the current system based on dirty fossil fuel that only serves the elite.
(6) the rehabilitation of land ruined by mining.
(7) the end of financing for coal & other fossil fuel investment. Including gas.
(8) no Eskom tariff hikes! No to loadshedding.
(9) renewable energy now.
(10) SLP consultation separation.
(11) DMRE, GCF, & Macua tour in mining communities.
We give DMRE 14 days of working days to arrange a meeting & respond to us.
