Unemployment in Sekhukhune area

Julian Tsoka

According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) for the first quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate was 63,9% for those aged 15-24 and 42,1% for those aged 25-34 years, while the current official national rate stands at 34,5%.

The Sekhukhune region is home to more than 30 platinum group metal mines but continues to have one of the highest poverty rates in Limpopo and nationally. There are citizens with qualifications in our society but unable to get jobs.

This whole situations has got nothing to do with government, it takes an Individual to come up with a plan of fighting all this circumstance we face on a daily basis. Indians, Pakistanis and Zimbabweans and other people from the East came to south Africa with empty pockets, now they run businesses in our villages. Their businesses rate 99% compared to our black enterprises.

The fourth industrial revolution has a huge impacts towards unemployment rate. Thousands of people were rentrenched form different factories. The Contractors are facing different challenges towards community developments because everyone wants to be employed. A large contract for water supply in the society cannot manage all members of community, even though they are employing new workers every six months.
