Dongas/ Trenches cause crime in Magobading Village.

Happiness Koma

Magobading village is full of huge trenches that children as well as parents fail to get through because there are kids who use the road to pass when they go to school. There are also children from neighboring villages like Sehunyane, Moshira, Moroke, and others who attend school in Magobading. These trenches were dug by the Mine when building houses for people who were removed from their land because the place where they lived was required by the Mine. And there was the destruction of the land, therefore they have not done anything to repair the damage or crime they committed in the first place. These trenches cause a lot of calamity as there are people who rob others and when they are not robbing they hide in the trenches so that they cannot be seen.

These trenches are mainly used by thieves who take advantage of committing crimes because they hide and attack vehicles that pick up people on the road. It is the community and the residents who suffer. This is because the trenches constructed by the mine created a shield and hiding place and other activities done by thieves. These trenches destroy the natural beauty of the landscape.

Dongas can also be used by killers as they can take a person inside when they want to kill them in the same Donga, and it puts the dignity of our country in jeopardy. This makes it impossible for our members to send their children to us as an organization because they look at the dignity and humiliation of the wounded land. These Dongas prevent us from walking alongside them because we are afraid that we can walk around and hear someone crying so
loudly that we too can get wind in our legs and not know whether to stand or run.

I would be happy if the perpetrators of this scarred land would realize their mistakes and repair them so that the scarred land is as safe as it was before. I am always hurt when a child goes to school because kids are walking through an unsafe place. Sometimes I walk with a young boy to go past those dongas because he has no money so that I can give him for transport. He goes to school at 7 o’clock and comes home at 4, It is very difficult.
