#MineCorruptionMust fall
In the early 80s the community of Monametse was based on cultural heritage, livelihood was
nice and perfect. Commercial business came by the name of mining, mining companies flocked
to our villages and affected the following communities Sefateng, Malomanye, Monametse in
large.
In early 90s the development of mine shafts started under Impala mine, which operated and
then sold the company to Lebowa platinum mine which managed to establish two shafts being
Um1 and UM2 which affects Monametsane and half of Monametse.
In early 2000 a new shaft called Brakfontein was established and more suffering of the
community on everything, our livestock has no access to grazing land for survival and too many
problems are experienced in our community.Rivers flow slowly or enough like before to feed
every single animal, including people, poor community leaders may engage the mine for
resolutions but nothing fruitfully achieved, demonstrations and other legal processes are held
but nothing positive happens.
After UM2 shaft development in 1979 to 2000, after the stereo typed community leaders who
serve their own interests, like job opportunities, tenders and other dodgy under carpet
agreements there more the community raise with grievances and upraise, which gave mine
opportunity to crack in and devide the community.
The community found out that everything happened to benefit the leaders and has got the
opposite meaning like they benefited from blood of community sufferings, house cracks, limited
grazing land for our livestock particularly cattle.
Due to lack of access to information poor people get poorer and lost, too much injustices
happen in rural areas were mine activities takes place and more than billions benefit the mine
due to our leaders.
We are today trying to restore our culture by bringing domestic animals back and make sure
they acknowledge that we are negatively affected by the mines in rural areas, only law firms
need to assist our communities.
