The unbearable Air pollution

#Air Pollution

The most scary air pollution it almost happens every day in our daily life most on windy days and during blasting days. The issue affects two towns which are Danhouser and Newcastle.

The communities that complain about these mines are the most affected because they can’t clean their houses and they can’t wash at any time during the day and the grass in the yards is completely black as you can see the dust coming out, even the livestock. We work hard to get food as we know that cows, goats and sheep eat grass but now farmers do not get enough or healthy grass. Owners of these animals are stunted by the loss of animals and parents of healthy children.

Even members of the public are suffering from respiratory diseases caused by air pollution. It all started with the arrival of coal mining companies that have been working in our areas for years. The cause of this problem is the blasting from the mines because dust travel through air and it gets everywhere where the communities lives. There are many departments dealing with this problem and DMRE does not confirm whether these mines are following the rules.

The mine itself must have something that will help them to reduce environmental pollution. Even the environmental affairs must stand up because they are responsible for the management of Air Quality since in Newcastle we do not have various watchdogs even the department of environmental affairs has one. Work should be done across KwaZulu-Natal to monitors air pollution.

There are many things that can be done DMRE must take full responsibility for managing the compliance of mines and visit the area without designating mines. Mines can plant trees around their mines and have enough water tanks to carry the burden of spraying the dry area around the mine or they should have something on hand that will minimize the dust and the department of environmental affairs must hire more workers that will deal with air pollution monitoring.
