PRETTY NDABA
In a significant move towards community empowerment and economic development, a new diesel depot has been launched in Mokopane, spearheaded by a collaboration between local stakeholders and the mining industry. The project, which commenced in October last year, is entirely black-owned. 51% of ownership is held by the community members of Tshamahansi and Ga-Kgubudi, and the remaining 49% by Velar Petroleum, a local company based in Johannesburg.
The initiative, championed by partners Lee Dlamini, Thabo Kekana, and Tshepo Mahlaola, is designed to create employment opportunities for residents from various tribes in Mokopane. By prioritizing local ownership and investment, the project sets a new standard for sustainable development and inclusive growth in the region.

“If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together.”
The traditional councils of Mokopane have lauded the project, recognizing its potential to drive economic growth and provide vital opportunities for the local youth. Speaking on behalf of the traditional councils, Matsobane David Kekana, a prominent figure in the Mokopane Traditional Council and Secretary for the Mokopane Regional Council expressed their full support for the initiative. He highlighted the project’s role in enabling young people to actively participate in the local economy and contribute to the future prosperity of their community.
