The impact of the tailing in the community of Snake Park
Bongani Dladla
The disposal of the tailing results in landscape alteration and land degradation creating barren areas devoid of vegetation. This tailing is contaminated and disrupts ecosystems. And tailings dams are some of the largest man-made structures in the world. The consequences of tailings dam failures can be catastrophic for communities and ecosystems.
The environmental impacts of the tailing include reclamation aimed at re-vegetation, soil stabilization, and land Biodiversity. As a community, we feel that this mine is violating our human rights and our human dignity because they don’t engage with us as the community of Snake Park.
If the owners of this tailing can come and engage with us as the community of Snake Park and teach us more about the danger of this tailing, especially our youth, things would be much better than they are now.
