Shiva uranium not investing in our youth By Tue lo Bantsejang
Thabiso Dikupe is a talented young man who is actively involved in soccer, this resident of the community of Tigane, Klerksdorp, started playing soccer from childhood and is willing to make his parents and community proud through sports. “I will particularly like to see myself reaching the dizzy heights after five years, being a soccer star”, said Thabiso. The Tigane Township is lacking in terms of sporting facilities and the sporting infrastructural development projects are hardly to be seen. This setback is costing the community to realize its full potential in as far as sporting is concerned.
Our community is so poor as if there are no multimillion mines next to it, The Shiva Uranium mine has been operating for quiet some time now, but still with nothing to prove as a corporate social responsibility towards our community. When asked about what sort of assistance is needed from the Shiva uranium mine Thabiso said, “I would really like to see the mine providing sponsorship to us the sport s people, and investing by building or upgrading the stadium in our community”. The mine and other businesses operating in our area should play a pivotal role in assisting the municipality and government to render key community material resources such as stadiums, the youth in my community are so ager and ready to give their best, hence the public-private partnership is essential to make the dreams of the youth to come true. Surely the community of Tigane will be what is called a drug, alcohol and crime free area.
Thabiso Concluded also added. “I would also like to urge the mine to invest in building another Secondary school, since the community is only having one, this stimulate local competition in terms of matric pass rate for learners and teachers”.
