The killer mine shaft is being demolished, 12 years and 2 deaths later.

Shaft 5 the abandoned mine shaft mine is being demolished by the government. This mine belonged to Vlakfontein Mine. It was not rehabilitated since the Sixties. In 2009 two nine-year-old school children drowned here. The community engaged government and nothing was done for 12 years.We believe that by destroying the building and securing and rehabilitating the land , it will make our community of Kwa Thema safe
