A week of intense engagements with SASOL, the company has shown the signs of dishonest and hypocrisy

Community Alerts/Sbusiso Hloweni/Secunda-Mpumalanga/18 July 2017

We have engaged SASOL and in our initial agreement we agreed to have social labour plans publicized. But in our meeting today it was a total different thing. We also agreed in the first meeting that they will recruit locally for both the shut down coming in September and other projects thereon.

We called a community meeting in eMbalenhle stadium to have them give a feedback on our engagements and agreement with SASOL. That’s where they started to sing a different tune. They acted like they never had an agreement with us whatsoever on our meeting that was held on the 12 July 2017.

So now we are planning a biggest meeting in eMbalenhle stadium to give a feedback and plan for a biggest march where we will close SASOL operation for the whole day. We are planning this to be on either the 26th or 27th July 2017.

We really need resources to achieve this objective. We will need buses to transport people from different townships of Secunda to block different gates of SASOL. We want to have 5000 or more unemployed people attending this event.

A week of intense engagements with SASOL, the company has shown the signs of dishonest and hypocrisy. The company is negotiating in bad Faith and cannot be trusted. They are very divisive in their approach, trying by all means to keep the community members and leaders apart. After I stopped a massive march that was planned by the organization called PYA, they just distanced themselves from all the initial agreements I had with the company. Which some of those are as follow:

  1. That SASOL advice the community on jobs and business opportunities available for shutdown.
  2. That SASOL list job opportunities available immediately.
  3. That social labour plans are available to the community.
  4. That SASOL and it service providers hire their staff directly from the wards.

I helped SASOL to stop the march because we had the above agreements and more. So immediately after the march was cancelled, the company revoked all the agreements and entered into the space to confuse the community members. But we are ready to mobilise masses to stop their production. And we will be happy if we can have a national boycott to SASOL garages
