The community of Chiadzwa, were the diamonds are being mined, said they are now worried that there is massive land degradation, especially this rain season. One traditional leader Headman Mukwada said since ZCDC took over from the former seven mining companies it was the local’s hope that the government will rehabilitate disused land first before they resume mining. The community is now worried that all the fertile top soil is being eroded to the sea. The land is bare and there are a lot of open pits, posing a threat to human and livestock not to mention outbreak of diseases like malaria due to the stagnant waters. The locals have nothing spared for the future generation if justice is not done to the disused land
