There are a lot of environmental damages in Mutoko due to mining activities. Large open pits are dug and left open pasing danger to the community. As the rains came the gullies are filled with water and become a breeding place for mosquitoes. They also spearhead the spread of malaria and the drawing of people and livestock. It is sad that a young boy  Philip karimazondo  drawned at an open pit at C. R. G  quarrying site in gurure area under headman kadiki. He was in grade 4 at gurure primary.

Until now the gully is still open. As the community we asked the company to rehabilitate but they have not responded to the issue.

The boy was drawned on the 29th of December 2006. The community has called for the fencing of mining premises to avoid livestock from entering as well as people.
