Siphumlile Clinic it’s a big clinic catering to two wards 129 patients and ward 50. On 24/03/2024 There was a TB Awareness Campaign at the clinic. They did invite community members and stakeholders. It started at 8 am until 15h00. It was hosted by the Department of Health in recognition of the ongoing global health threat posed by TB. According to research, there are many people with TB.
We had a family member Keletso Guardwater age 10 years old who suffered from TB illness. My mother Violet Katametsi didn’t know about this illness called TB. She bought all kinds of medication hoping it would help him with this chest problem.
One day a family friend who was a caregiver advised her that Keletso wouldn’t get better because his chest problem symptoms indicated that he had TB. She advised her to take him to the clinic near Bara Hospital called Koos Clinic.
My mother went with him to Koos clinic where they took his sputum and X-ray after the results he was diagnosed with TB. He then received treatment for (six)6 months. As months went we could see that he getting better, he was no longer coughing or sweating at night and was also gaining weight which was a good indication that he was getting better and my mother was very happy with her progress.
Five years ago when Keletso was diagnosed with TB our SIPHUMULILE clinic did not have a TB unit, but as the years continued most of our community members were affected by TB because of tailings, but today our clinic has a trauma TB unit.
Every year in March our clinic runs an awareness campaign.
