Mines destroying streams
#LACKOFWATER
The arrival of mining in our community have deprived us of the things we grow up eating and doing during childhood and even the old people at large.
We were staying in the farm where we had a bus that took us to school everyday and we ate every vegetables and can play the way we like but today all that is gone because of coal mining .
It started years back when our boss Mr Venter decided to sell his farm to the mine .He said they wont relocate us but the blasting and the air forced us to relocate without being told to relocate.
The farm workers who thought the farm is their home could not harvest the way they used to before the arrival of the mine. Also the water changed the colour and could not be drinkable anymore.
The livestock changed and other died because the water in the streams were contaminated with chemicals from the mine and coal waste is also deposited into the stream during coal processing at the mine.
Everybody who strayed at the mine decided to relocate in protection of their livestock and livelihood and the better life including taking children’s to school for there was no school bus anymore .
The mine have been asked to compensate the farm workers but it said the farm owner was paid in full and the founder of the mine is gone only small scale miners left without any promises of compensation .
