Mphanama water stream is a stream running in between many sub-sections in Mhluzi (Mathaileni, Reabotha, Modderfontein, Thembisa, Vuka, Riverside, Nyanyathu). Next to the stream are the community park, Themba Senamela Stadium, and Makhathini & Kwazini schools.

Mphanama water stream is contaminated by illegal dumping and littering, when people sit at the public park they just throw away waste such as bottles, plastics & papers. Others even urinate next to it, sewage that comes from Municipality sewage main holes gets into the Mphanama water stream. The sewage spillage makes the stream smell bad.

Steve Tshwete Municipality was notified about this situation by some communities living around those areas. The Municipality took the matter to address it as part of service delivery, they did fix the main sewage holes and also cleaned the stream. Notice boards are put in place to notify the community not to dirty the stream, Municipality has also built public toilets next to the park to address the matter.

As part of job creation, the Municipality employed a certain number of people to concentrate on cleaning around there so that the Mphanama stream could be kept clean.
