Happiness Koma
On 07 November I was one of those involved in community services
where we visited the Malatji family in Malokela village where there is a
child who is physically disabled I mean disabled.
The child in question is a boy who was born disabled and the health
authorities have been promising the family to give them his chair in the
house and they told them they would come back again but they never
came back. Until someone wrote a letter to the government asking for a
wheelchair because our government says Fila only wants us during
elections.
The child is being cared for by his grandmother and she is disabled. The
woman explained that since the mother of the child gave her the child
when he was 3 months old until today the child is 14 years old and does
not have a wheelchair.
He said the mother of the child lives in Gauteng and she lives with the
child and just holds the clinic card. They live on the old woman’s sassa of
the child does not know where it is because the certificate does not hold
a child can grow up.
They say the child lives to go to the clinic every month the old woman
says she lives asking for a wheelbarrow next door to carry the child to
the taxi stand. She says she can’t go with him Tubatse town like other
children because he has his own car.
Interview with one of the villagers
He said it was painful to see the old woman living in poverty and the
municipality kept lying about helping her. Today we are thankful to see
the child have his own car where he will also be able to play with other
children. And he sat upon his chair still alive and slept. Even the old
woman will be able to go with Tubatse town and not leave her at home.
They say they would like to thank Build One South African for not lying
to them like others.
