Illnesses are rising due to dust and mine sludgeall around

Menge Agnes Choledi

We had an issue of skin problems that is rising around the town through our children especially
children under five years and adults are crying about itchy skin and dry skin, these are the
effects arising since after the disaster.

Now my partner Thabo who was an eyewitness of the disaster and also a survivor who was
trying to save our mother Mokgadi who is still missing is experiencing a difficult time and trauma
that he is going through day and night. Since the incident, my husband has changed emotionally
spiritually and physically because he injured his hand while trying to save Mother Mokgadi. And
now the chemicals have entered his hand and run through his body and he is living in pain
because of that injury. The doctors and the clinic can’t help him, instead, they claim that his
mind is confused, and they give him mental pills and also sleeping pills. Now Thabo is scared
and confused and refuses to go to the clinic again because he is scared that they will not treat
him well because many people have died and others are crying because of the way the health
department has treated them.

Now we are still waiting to hear about how dangerous the dust and sludge are so that we can
know what to do and where to go for assistance because all our family is affected because of
the disaster, like me as a woman who was pregnant at that time and I had to run with my twin
babies who where born before their time which is the unforgettable memories.
