Ext 24 stands as a remarkable symbol of resilience and unity within Jouberton.

Despite lacking major infrastructure, employment opportunities, and access to essential services like shopping complexes or malls, the people of this community refuse to succumb to poverty. Instead, they have built strong local initiatives from community gardens that sustain livelihoods to small businesses like salons, vegetable markets, and taverns, all driven by collective support and solidarity.

What truly sets Ext 24 apart is its commitment to dialogue and problem-solving. When heavy rains damage the gravel roads, instead of waiting for external interventions, residents actively engage with the ward councillor to push for repairs. This proactive approach reflects a deep sense of ownership over the community’s well-being.

The low crime rate despite widespread unemployment challenges conventional expectations and proves that a strong social fabric can create stability even in difficult circumstances. The way men, women, and youth come together to reflect on challenges, respect one another, and find solutions demonstrates a model for humane and inclusive community-building.

Ext 24 is not just a settlement, it is a testament to what happens when people uplift each other rather than allowing circumstances to define them.
