Tunatazama - Community Monitors

By: Tumelo Mashiloane #ENVIRONMENT IS ONE WITH HUMANITY The environment is part of us, and we are part of the environment. Environmental injustice is still an issue in my community. Sometimes I sit down and I ask myself this question: Do people really know the importance of a healthy environment? What is concerning me so much is that I even ask myself this vital question, because of how people are still conducting themselves and their response to the environment. People are still behind regarding the importance of our own community environment, with so many dumping areas. Why are people still dumping their trash, including dead animals, all over, sometimes near dams, near parks, and other illegal dumping areas? Not so long ago,o I was passing OR Tambo Park in Mhluz, Mpumalanga, and I came across a lifeless dog wrapped in a plastic bag. While I was continuing with my walk, I came across women’s sanitary (pads) nappies for babies behind Ekwazini Secondary School and other trash not good for our health. I know about the impacts of these things I’ve just mentioned on our environment that are so harmful and to our health too. But this question is sparking my mind and my Environmental consciousness. DO PEOPLE KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT?

#ENVIRONMENT IS ONE WITH HUMANITY
The environment is part of us, and we are part of the environment.
Environmental injustice is still an issue in my community. Sometimes I sit down and I ask
myself this question: Do people really know the importance of a healthy environment? What is
concerning me so much is that I even ask myself this vital question, because of how people are
still conducting themselves and their response to the environment.

People are still behind regarding the importance of our own community environment, with so
many dumping areas. Why are people still dumping their trash, including dead animals, all over,
sometimes near dams, near parks, and other illegal dumping areas? Not so long ago,o I was
passing OR Tambo Park in Mhluz, Mpumalanga, and I came across a lifeless dog wrapped in a
plastic bag.

While I was continuing with my walk, I came across women’s sanitary (pads) nappies for babies
behind Ekwazini Secondary School and other trash not good for our health. I know about the
impacts of these things I’ve just mentioned on our environment that are so harmful and to our
health too. But this question is sparking my mind and my Environmental consciousness.
