The Challenge of Tubatse small farmers is not land but finances to support farming and markets

As small farmers, there are many challenges we face in our Municipality,

Access to land, access to water and above all access to financial support from the government. Even during this difficult time the government has allocated money for COVID – 19 relief to farms but it seems no one qualified for the funding according to the farmers of Burgersfort.
We are undermined by the big supermarkets. They buy from the big business outside our area even though we are trying all our best. Its high time local business recognise us as farmers and take us seriously.

I had an opportunity to speak to one of the small farmer who says land is not a problem but finance to start is the problem and most of the farmers got discouraged because the market is also an issue.
We hope for the best and also do our best to get assistance from the local mines they need to put this matter of supporting the local farmers as part of giving back to the community through their social and labour plans.
