Twickenham Mine must reopen open

On the 13 may a hosting community which affected by Twickenham platinum mine had a march to twickhenham offices to handover a memorandum demanding that the mine must reopen and no care maintenance mine must be reopen.

Community held a recap at the Twickenham shaft from 5h00 to distract worker not to go to work. By 9h00 they marched to the camp to handover the memorandum.
The march went well. There where police officers, traffic control, sabc news,Mukurukuru media,Taxi drivers, MACUA,SAFTU, activist and members of political parties.

The community demanded many things. They said that if the mine does not reopen, they will close the mine. They also want people from the affected communities and those who belong to the villages by birth.

They have given them a period of six months to reopen the mine. In the mean time while preparations are done to reopen the mine, they want see people training to prepare them to work in the mine once it Re open. The community is very angry in a way that they don’t want to wait, they want to work because R350 from SASSA is not enough. Most people have kids and wives who are also unemployed. Unemployment is so high because the mine is under care maintenance. Some people have businesses and because of the high unemployment rate, the businesses are not doing well.

The general manager signed the memorandum and that gives them 7 days to respond. If they do not reply or promise anything, the community will take action. They will go to DMR in polokwane.
