Thobejane family residing at Motsane village is living in abject poverty, the children who are young boys are suffering and dire condition. The children’s mother left the family with her daughter after divorce, she left the boys with their father who is neglecting his parental responsibilities to his kids. The kids cannot get child social grant as thier identifications are missing and they do not know where the parents placed them.
The kids do not have uniform and ordinary clothes to wear, they are seen following their father around the village and they seldomly attend school due to lack of uniform and encouragement to attend school to better their lifes and wellbeing, the depend on community for second hand clothes . They do not have food and sometimes go to bed on empty stomach. The community has taken an initiative of assisting the kids with second hand clothing and to involve social workers to assist as these are very young kids without care and they do not attend school regularly, intervention is really needed
It is an injustice to the kids when parents divorce or separate and they neglect their children and let them suffer, it is their responsibility to protect their rights, take care of their needs and buy them clothes like other kids by both parents. The father’s failure to take care of his children may lead to the kids being hurt or end up committing crime to fend for themselves and young girls selling their body or enter into relationships for partners to take care of them financially.
Parents should not neglect their children as there are social grants that can assist to alleviate the children’s suffering. The law must make parents to give their kids full care and support. It is the community’s responsibility to identify and support suffering children due to lack of support.
