The Unemployment in Snake Park/ Thulani
Motseki Daniel Mkwanazi
The citizens of Snake Park/ Thulani have a critical situation especially the youth are mostly unemployed.
“Hey, My name is Motseki Daniel Mkwanazi born in The Free State, Qwaqwa but raised in Soweto and later relocated to Snake Park/ Thulani. A proud South African citizen who is currently unemployed but volunteers in a local cooperative called Bambanani Co-operative, which participates in community-based development.
I have been part of this cooperative since November 2023 because there are no job opportunities in our community, hence being part of this cooperative has enlightened my vision to create something out of nothing, because most youths have matric certificates and some are graduates but they are not working.
In my community, we approximately have an age group of 21-35 who are mostly unemployed which it’s a sad thing that’s happening in Snake Park/ Thulani.
The South African government has made false promises about creating jobs for the youth, although the unemployment rate keeps growing drastically. My vision is mostly inspired by the local cooperative I started joining back in November 2023, that the aim is to create something out of nothing that you have and that’s how you alleviate situations, especially in my community.
