Gender-Based Violence in Snake-Park

In Snakepark Thulani I came across a woman aged 45- years old named Lebohang with three kids staying with a boyfriend named Ally. Lebohang fell in love with Ally in the year 2000 now they’re living together and they have two kids. They live in Snakepark block 1 next to Dolomite.

Ally was a good father to their kids all these years the problem started when he lost his job due to COVID-19. He started to drink a lot and shouting his girlfriend or baby mama and the kids due to stress. The time Lebo asks him not to shout he started to beat her in front of the kids. Whenever he started the fight they ran away to neighbors for help. Ally was abusing the whole family.

Neighbors advised her to report him to the police station or go to court for do protection order because of the love she has for him she was in denial. Ally carries on behaving like that only when he’s drunk that is why Lebo didn’t want to open a case against him because all these things abuse happens under the influence of alcohol. After speaking to her, she understands that this thing is also traumatizing kids and she also is where she stands up to do a protection order for her boyfriend and he mustn’t raise his hands to her. And also she spoke to him that he must get counseling. It’s time to speak up, demand action, and ensure that the necessary resources are allocated to protect and empower our communities.

There must be funds allocated in the 2024 budget for gender-based violence.
