A lady from Clewer where mines has also come in numbers was employed by a contractor working under Kriel power station and she worked for six years’.

This happened in Mpumalanga Highveld Region under Emalahleni Local Municipality Province in the coal fired power station of Kriel.

It all started in 2012 When I thought I have a job to feed my family and build a home for them, but now that I have asthma I tried in so many places especially in the mining areas as I have operator’s certificates but I always failed in the medical certificate because I’m not breathing like before all they tell me that I’m not fit to operate and not fit even to work in the mining areas.

The lady named Jabulile Hlophe is now living under stress because she spends a lot of money to get the operating certificates but now is like she is without a certificate because those certificates for mining purposes and is where she is told she is unfit to work in the mines.

I really wish I can have an alternative but even in the government sector I’m not fit because I am 45 years’ old which means I’m not able to work under government as they employed people under 35 years old.
The contractor that I worked under is no more to be found the reason being that they chop and change names. The worst part is that it was not a contractor from South Africa but from overseas.

The law enforcement and the Department of Minerals Resource and Energy must make sure that if any contractor is not from South Africa it should be investigated so that they make sure that the history does not repeat itself.
