GBV Dialogue

On the 06 November 2024 the community organisation Sisonke environmental justice network was
holding a Youth dialogue about GBV together with Department of community safety and liaison.
This dialogue was collaborating a rural youth and affected youth by mines to come together. The
many purposes of this dialogue to sharing ideas about GBV that happening at rural areas and
affected communities by mine, to look what happening in our society(global,local) and also to find a
strategy plan who to mitigate GBV in our society by raising awareness together with Department of
community safety and liaison.

The are many cases that happening in our communities when big cooperative industries entered
because they come with people from other places that will lead teenage pregnancy, human
trafficking, Domestic Violence and rapes. All those things are happening daily but no-one shows a
sign of GBV that happening in affected communities by mine. We understand that unemployment
rate is increase all time and people they made a way to get survived by dating or been prostitute.
Many women enter in relationship as an option for survival or they want to live better life. It’s
happened because women are not employed low income, single mother and depending on social
grant.

Now days many women/men became victims because they hide what a pain that in their chest by
Isolating themselves . but as community activist I am saying we need to preach this verse of GBV and
empowering women economically to reduce dependence on abusive patterners ,engaging
traditional leaders and faith community. Together we can create a space of equality.
