As residents, we have launched a water campaign, which has revealed that our water is contaminated by mine sludge and is also toxic. Our water pipeline and the sewer system are full of mine sludge, which has a huge impact on the entire community, and our lives are in danger. For our community, everyday life is getting harder for them to sustain, and this is a problem that needs to be addressed and resolved immediately.

As the Jagersfontein Lerumo Justice Forum, we did our investigations and research, and what we found was not interesting. According to the test and research we conducted, our people are drinking toxic water, which is also infested with tadpoles. Even our Environmental practitioner supports our mission to lodge a complaint about the right to water that is enshrined in the Bill of Rights. We are still mobilizing and alerting our supporters and community members about the complaint we are going to lodge, and teaching each other on how we are moving forward.

We want to see justice prevail for the community of Jagersfontein, as they are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the corporation that has caused this mess. We want accountability for all this corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

As Jagersfontein Lerumo Justice Forum, we thank all who support the movement, Bench Marks Foundation, and the Civil Society tailings working group. To everyone, may you all enjoy your festive holiday.
