Service Delivery Update

Moseamedi Molin

The community of Mogabane Village is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of action from Bokoni Platinum Mine regarding the D4180 road from Mafeane to Seelane. The heavy rains last year severely damaged the bridges, and despite promises to repair them, there has been no visible progress since October.

On March 12, 2026, we held a meeting to discuss how to effectively approach the mine about this urgent issue. During this meeting, it was decided that a formal letter would be sent to the mine to express our concerns. In response, the mine indicated that they would do their best to address the problem, yet their only action to date has been the delivery of concrete, which they have not used to fix the road or bridges.

This situation is affecting our community significantly. The deteriorating road conditions are leading to accidents, and the dust from the road is impacting the health of those living nearby. One resident I spoke with mentioned how the dust irritates their respiratory system and causes frequent flu-like symptoms. Another suggested that the mine should at least maintain the road by applying water to the concrete to minimize dust while we wait for repairs.

Given the ongoing issues, the community has decided to reconvene and draft another letter to Bokoni Platinum Mine, pushing for more direct engagement and accountability. We are determined to see our road repaired for the safety and well-being of all residents.
