Finally the Light Will Shine at the end of the Tunnel

The community of Monametse Village under Tubatse-Fetakgomo Local Municipality which falls under Sekhukhune District Municipality is finally seeing the rays of the light. The community has tried several times to engage with Bokoni Platinum Mine which is owned jointly by Anglo Platinum(49%) and Atlatsa Resources (51%) o issues affecting the community as they are directly affected community but all their request to meet with the mine were ignored. Committees have come and gone, tensions within the community were growing bigger by the day as the community was gradually losing trust in every elected leadership with a believe that they were all self-centred. In the past recent days( 7days) w have seen the newly elected Monametse-Ga Mokgotho Community Engagement Committee bring not only changes with the community but also smiles on the face of the residents. The community has managed to convince the Department of Mineral Resources together with Bokoni Platinum Mine owners to listen to their grievances which has let to all the parties sitting in one room on the 14 August 2018 and subsequently Bokoni Platinum Mine agreeing to consulting with the community on matters involving them which amongst them include the outstanding Social and Labour Plan project and also being consulted on the formulation of the new Social and Labour Plan. Perseverance is really a mother of success. Now the community will manage to make inputs on issues affecting them. They saying that says “if you’re not on the table you’re on the menu” no longer exist within the community.
