2023 Youth month celebration
#Youthday

June is youth month, there were celebrations across South Africa. The youth of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality went to Mudavula village in Vhembe District, Collins Chabane Local Municipality to celebrate youth day. The Technical Vocationan Education and training(TVET) colleges and people from Agriculture Department were assisting youth with applications. I was happy when youth were told that agriculture is not only for arable farming but has different career opportunities , it also involves animals/livestock and one can be a Doctor or Economist. The Limpopo Premier Mr Chipu Stanley Mathabatha was present to address the youth.

There were different activities for the day and the youth were given a chance to give their views. These are the views/challenges faced by youth:
1.Youth unemployment, work opportunities should be created instead of Social Relieve of Distress (SRD)grant of R350 which is not enough to cover their daily needs.
2.Changes in parliament so that youth can have a say and be heard.
3.Youth is not satisfied by by being led by old people for youth issues, they do want to work with elders but as youth they would like a young member to be a leader not an old person.
4.Small businesses support for youth as they are struggling with their business that end up collapsing.
5.Poor quality of education that leads youth to unemployment and frustration.
6.Development that happens at a speed of a tortoise in the communities.
7.Libraries and laboratories should be built in the communities because some villages do not have a single library which makes it difficult for youth to access information.
8.Increase the Tertiary institutions in Sekhukhune e.g Tvet colleges and universities.

People from the following villages attended: GaMaleka, GaMasha, Mphanama, Mohlaletse, GaNkwana, Apel, Strydkraal, GaPhasha, Selatole, Moroke, GaKgwete, GaMashishi, Motlolo, Driekop, River cross, Magobading, Sepkadibeng and others.
Some of the youth members mentioned that youth day is celebrated every year but the challenges they face are increasing at a high rate. They are the leaders of tomorrow and more should be done to better their lives.
