Cerebral palsy awareness day event by Snakepark Cerebral Palsy Forum was a great platform to educate the general public and encourage them to become allies of the cerebral palsy community and help them boost their confidence.
The event took place on the 31st of August 2024 at Dooronkop/Thulani community hall block 4. The event was supported by Bench Marks Foundation and the forum also received support from other NGO’s in and around Snakepark. The forum and community members started by taking a walk that parents and community members who are staying with disabled children would know an NGO that deals with disability.
The purpose of the cerebral palsy awareness was to encourage parents who are staying with disabled children not to be ashamed. They must embrace what God has given them, which is to encourage fathers that they are there for their children and give them love and support. Take them outside and let them play with other children and not be cooped up in the house just because the parent is ashamed of what people will say.
Through the discussion’s parents indicated that they would like to have their center where they will take their children, knowing it is a safe place with proper care and where they will learn and be taken care of without paying any fee because some of them don’t have income.
