Theft and drug abuse out of control

We are very concerned about crime and substance abuse throughout our community, our
elderly feel unsafe and people don't trust us anymore especially parents who are suffering
because of their children who are doing these things. Parents are crying because of their
children who are addicted to these drugs, now they dont even respect their parents, and also
stealing from their homes.
I have to talk about this incident anonymously because it happened in front of me and it was
very painful to see elderly people suffering like that because of their children. It is because of
unemployment poverty and lack of power from our government, it is just their element to use to
control people and mislead society.
On the 13 June 2024, it was on Thursday around 10 a.m. I was called by an elder from my
square where he wanted all of us as men to sit down and talk about the theft that is seriously
taking place around us and people living in fear. It is where we have these two gentlemen
around age 30 to 35 years, they are neighbours and they grew up together.
The police were called and they know about them and they said those two guys were out of
their control and they couldn’t do anything about them, they just short mob justice. And it was
very sad for me to hear that because it is the police who should protect us but now we must
take the law into our own hands.
I think the government must come to Jagersfontein now because this small town is being
undermined by all the spheres of government. It is a concern for a community member going to
the police station and he comes back unsatisfied by how he was assisted. When a complainant
gives a statement, they dont open a case but they write a report. Now these thieves are not
being arrested and I blame the police for their lack of skills.
