Is our government concerned about protecting our future

Myself, Thabang, our assistant facilitator Khanyisile, and our Free State facilitator Makhotla visited Mosala Secondary School in Allenridge on 5th August to fill out a Google form regarding the impact of the Voelpan dam on the learners. When the mine began releasing toxic water into the Voelpan, the Voelpan dam began to flood, which harmed the Nyakallong village.

The majority of students want the mine or the government to make arrangements for them to leave there, and they also want the mine to construct a wall to keep water out of the school grounds. Another unsettling aspect is that, although they don’t bite, more mosquitoes are present in the grade 12 classroom throughout the summer, which bothers the students. Even though this is my last year in school, I’m hoping to see change because maybe my kids
will want to study here," remarked a grade 12 anonymous learner. We are appealing to the government to devise a strategy, as this location lacks security.

Based on the studies I conducted while healing, uranium can cause kidney damage and lung cancer, and radioactive characteristics can cause bone cancer. As the Nyakallong community, let’s unite to defend and fight for our future medical professionals, nurses, and presidents. By battling that the government should build a wall or find another place where Mosala can be a safe place to study.
