The Impact of Potholes on Morning Traffic

Potholes are a common issue on roads, especially during the morning commute. Potholes are caused by a combination of factors, including weather conditions, road wear and tear, and inadequate maintenance. During the morning commute, potholes can cause vehicles to slow down or even come to complete stops, leading to congestion and delay. Mr. Mbongiseni Zwane said, in addition, potholes can cause damage to vehicles, such as tyres puncture and suspension problems, which can result in increased repair costs for drivers.

In Runnoridge, the roads have a lot of potholes. The municipality has promised to come and cover the potholes, and their effectiveness in ensuring road safety and user satisfaction. Mr Zwane said.

Before the election for IEC, they came to cover the potholes. However, it was not completely done well, because now again there are potholes. Since voting they never came, “from August 20th the town’s residents grew tired of constantly avoiding these holes and wanted to change”. He said.

The residents, drivers, and school children are sometimes late at school or work because of these potholes. Now they are planning to cover the potholes by themselves, they don’t want the help of the Municipality of Emalahleni, they have taken matters into their hands and formed a community-driven initiative to fill the potholes.

During September they will be working together with the help of the public works department, where they will spend their weekend scoring the town’s street. I identified the worst potholes, and marked them for repair
