Mining activities are destroying our nature
Monametse is one of the richest communities, which has G7 minerals. Long ago we were only
believed that Monametse was located on a platinum belt after the Bokoni platinum mine opened
another shaft called the middle point the history of minerals provoked. Bokoni platinum mine
opened the middle pint shaft after the investment from African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), the
time turned to pay interest on an R5 billion investment from ARM which made mine residents of
Monametse.
Based on the following :
– Nature disturbances
– Destroying rivers
– Not mining legally
Nature disturbances- this cost affects the residents because " we grew up from the same nature
provided by the cultural heritage. " We today see some healing muti destroyed by big
machines. Rivers- The Monametse River supplied too many living objects and still provides
water though the flow rate has gone back to time during illegal mining on top of our mountain.
The simplest rivers that we’re supplying our livestock are no longer having water. Bokoni
platinum mine opened and decided to open another operation as open cast, which also will take
big grazing land for our livestock.
The worst part of the story they are under pressure from the investment bill, they failed
community members by consultation. Community members tried to call a meeting with me but
we failed, from my suspicion, someone delivered information under the table. The headmen are
on our side but nothing has progressed, too many trees destroyed and even traditional healers
do not know where else to go because today people are dreaming big too much corruption
experienced particularly among residents of Monametse from my point of view mine need to
destroy community completely. Community leadership can be provided with training on the legal
process.
