Introduction of the shaft
Molin Moseamedi
Residents of Mogabane and Maruping held a meeting on 14 October, the main issue was the matter regarding the new UM1 shaft which is being opened. Their windows are broken. They said that they are being damaged because of the mine. The mine does not hire them and bring people from far away leaving the children of the land who have needs and have the experience of those duties.
The residents’ complaints were heard and they agreed that they should send people to the mine and ask them to help discuss how to fix the issue because they do not have the money to repair the damage. After all, they are not working.
They chose four people and sent them to take their grievances mine. On the 14th they went to UM1, and on their arrival, they were denied entry into the offices. They were told that they wanted to invite them first with a letter and that they could not enter without that. They came back and told the community and the community was very angry because the mine does not want to hear their cries and they do not care about the residents affected by their explosives because they damage them.
I asked one of the residents how the explosions affect them, and he replied that it is difficult because they have no money and do not work anywhere, which is why they are unable to repair the damage, and that is why the miners have to work with the residents. The residents agreed that they should go to the mine as a community and not complain and that day they blocked the road so that they could be answered by the miners.
It is very sad because some of the animals or people’s livestock run away from home when they bluster. People have to go and walk in the fields looking for their livestock because they have run away from home. The mine is fighting with the people because some people when they go to the mine, go outside here while others are required letters to take their grievances. Those who are hired are mostly remote workers.
